Women's Opportunity Awards

SILJ is committed to making a difference for women through projects that help women lead better lives. The Women's Opportunity Awards are cash awards that recipients may use for any expenses related to their educational pursuits, including books, childcare and transportation.

Each fall, applications are distributed to colleges, universities and various vocational and technical schools throughout San Diego County. The deadline is typically December 1 of each year. A winner is announced the following month.

The Women's Opportunity Award helps women heads of household realize their career goals.

Violet Richardson Award

The Violet Richardson Award recognizes and honors young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who make the community and world a better place through volunteer efforts such as: fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty. Volunteer actions that benefit women or girls are of particular interest.

Applications are distributed through the La Jolla area high schools in the fall of each academic year. The winning recipient receives a cash award for herself as well as a donation for the charity of her choice.
